    1. What is HPMC?


    (1)HPMC stands for Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose, Hypromellose. It is a non-ionic water-soluble methyl cellulose ether polymer that is derived from natural polymer cellulose. HPMC is an odorless, non-toxic,tasteless white powder that can be dissolved in hot and cold water to form a transparent viscous solution.HPMC has the properties of thickening, binding, dispersing, emulsifying, film-forming, suspending, adsorbing, gelling, surface active, water retention and protecting colloid that is commonly used in a variety of industries, including construction, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food.

    (3)HPMC Features :


    ①. Solubility: It is almost insoluble in absolute ethanol, ether, and acetone, but dissolves into a clear or slightly turbid colloidal solution in cold water. Soluble in some organic solvents, also soluble in water-organic solvent mixed solvents.

    ②. Salt resistance: in the presence of metal salts or organic electrolytes, it is relatively stable in aqueous solution.

    ③. Surface activity: it can be used as colloidal protective agent, emulsifier and dispersant.PH value is relatively stable in the range of 3.0~11.0. The viscosity of aqueous solution is hardly affected by acid or alkali.

     

     

    2. What is HPMC used for?

    (1) HPMC for construction: One of the main applications of HPMC is in the construction industry.
